Cheri has a unique gifting mechanic in which they will continuously reject Beet Soup unless the player has seen their ♥️ 8-Heart Event "A Five-Play Program", which in turn requires the player having seen Balor's ♥️ 8-Heart Event "For Good" and completed Cheri's 💕 Companion Quest series. Attempting to gift Beet Soup before completing the prerequisites will result in a unique dialogue line, the Journal's Friendship meter not increasing, and the gifted item returned to the player's inventory.Beet Soup can still be revealed as a Loved gift in Cheri's Journal page through the Gossip mechanic regardless of the player's progress in completing the prerequisites for its acceptance as a gift.

After Gifting Cheri Hard Wood, there is a 1% chance of receiving a unique Wooden Figurine Decor item when speaking to them for the first time the following day. This chance increases to 3%/5%/7% if the Player has 4/6/8 Hearts with Cheri. Wooden Figurine variants are drawn from a fixed pool, obtainable only once per save, and the Player will no longer obtain new Figurines after having received every variant once.Wooden Figurines can be 'shown' (i.e. given like a Gift, but the item immediately returns to the Player's inventory) to specific characters to unlock special interactions or dialogue responses. Certain Figurines or special comments can only be obtained after finishing specific 📘 Story Quests or 💕 Companion Quests, or seeing specific 💗 Rival Heart Quests of a Rival NPC.

"You're from the Capital, right? Ever heard of tales of a foreign, pale-haired swordsman? Dealer of death who wields an ancestral blade that drinks the blood of its enemies? What do you mean, 'just a legend'? I've actually had the pleasure of meeting them in person!... hm? 'Blood-Red Swordsman', huh... that one's not my idea. Now that you tell me that, I wish it was!"

An old friend whom Cheri used to spend their teenage years travelling with for 3 years. They first met at the Capital where Balor's 'adventuring party', at the time a group of three, posted a job offer in a shady pub requesting for protection detail during 'delivery of a precious cargo'. In reality, the job was a dangerous heist for treasure at the heart of a Baron's manor, the details of the job having been purposefully obfuscated through coded language that only fellow ne'er-do-wells would understand. A detail lost on the young swordsman... as they were illiterate at the time and had asked the bartender to read the advert for them.The young swordsman showed up to the designated meeting spot with the advert in tow, claiming that they were an experienced mercenary - a claim that nobody in the group took seriously. Yet the young swordsman ended up proving their mettle by taking down a group of pursuing guards on their own when the heist went sideways. Despite awe and approval from the other party members, Balor had objected fiercely against the young swordsman joining their group, insisting that he will not involve children in their activities... so the party paid them their work's worth and ditched them on the spot.This doesn't last as the young swordsman ended up stalking their party all over the Capital, even tracking down and butting in to some of their 'jobs' with terrifying precision. In the end, Balor reluctantly conceded to their leader's decision and the youth's stubborn insistence to join them. Thus they ended up travelling together as a ragtag group of thieves and killers, enjoying life from one thrill to the next... until those halcyon days ended in blood and flames.Balor had been a mentor to the young swordsman - teaching them sleight of hand and throwing knives, among other things - and they developed a great attachment to him as first a puppy crush, then just as someone to rely on and take shelter in, then to someone who they would kill for.In the present day, their separation had driven a wedge between them. All Cheri wanted was to have Balor in their life again and reconnect with him, but Balor seems to be harboring a lot of guilt about the incident that caused their separation, and this guilt played into why he got Cheri into Mistria in the first place. Deep in his heart, he is relieved to see Cheri take to mundane life in Mistria, forming bonds with new friends and enjoying things people her age should have had earlier in life.Balor is one of the few people Cheri would do anything for, and he looks out for her in return. Their relationship is difficult to describe using convenient terms or categorize in a box, as their attachment and commitment to the other goes beyond friendship, but does not reach the realm of romance. Perhaps the easiest explanation for it would be that Balor is what Cheri would consider closest to the word 'family'.

Reina ↗ - Best Friend ↑

"I know people think she's a little weird, but Cheri's actually really nice! She's always a great help in the kitchen - prep work has never gone by faster than with her at the cutting board. Plus, she's good with Luc and Maple.I just wish she takes care of herself better... and maybe stop trying to teach my baby sister knife tricks, but everyone has their quirks, right?"

Reina is Cheri's closest friend in Mistria. An unlikely bond considering their deeply contrasting personalities and upbringing, but they get along surprisingly well.They first met while Reina was taking a walk to clear her head after a busy day at the Sleeping Dragon Inn's kitchen. She spotted the newest addition to their community crouched at the roadside beneath an oak tree - out of curiosity, Reina approached Cheri and asked what they were doing.Cheri revealed that they had been picking up fallen acorns 'for snacks' because 'there was no food left' in their house - an answer that appalled Reina so much she dragged them to the Inn to have a proper meal. When Josephine asked about the ruckus, Reina spilled the beans on the reason why, and Cheri ended up interrogated on their self-care habits by the mother-daughter duo. Afterwards, Reina solemnly swore to make sure that Cheri will at least have a proper breakfast at the inn every day, and they insisted to prioritize assisting her and the Inn in some way as compensation.The two agreed, following Josephine and Hemlock's approval, that Cheri should work part-time as the Inn's sous chef when it's Reina's shift - a job that's slightly hindered by the fact that Cheri's cooking skills leave much to be desired, unless it's cutting ingredients. But to Reina, that just means more time spent with her new friend.Reina appreciates Cheri's honesty and is impressed by their knife skills and fashion sense; Cheri appreciates Reina and her family's kindness, and would kill for her.

Ryis ↗ - Best Friend ↑

"At first, I didn't think they were the artsy, aesthetic-driven type with how deadly serious they seem with that sword in tow, but once I got a closer look, it's pretty clear that Cheri appreciates good craftsmanship. And I've never seen someone carve a wood sculpture so well without the proper tools for it!Wonder why they picked up that hobby. It's apparently to pass time on the road, but... I'm not one to pry."

Ryis and Cheri's relationship is one born of mutual interest in woodworking and nature which evolved into respect and easy companionship.Their first proper meeting took place late at the Eastern Road, paths crossing by complete coincidence - Ryis was out in the hopes to catch sight of Mistria's nocturnal birds, while Cheri had been wandering aimlessly, sword in tow, as sleep eluded her that night. He offered for her to take a walk with him. Some company, even silent, would be nice to have. She accepted quietly and began to follow his path.They ended up sitting by the riverside and, surprisingly, they began to chat, finding unexpected commonality in many things - craftsmanship, enjoying nature, their new lives in Mistria, and life in the Capital beforehand (or at least that's the half-truth Cheri told him). Ryis' easy disposition and genuine interest in her as a person even made Cheri show him her sword, which until then had never been out of her presence and her grasp.The observation revealed Cheri's interest in woodcarving, as the scabbard of her sword was one of many points she loved about it, so Ryis offered to work on crafts projects together at some point in the future, and revealed his own plans for a birdhouse at the old hawthorn tree. Maybe they could help not only themselves and each other, but also other living things, transform Mistria into a home.Ryis appreciates Cheri's passion and discipline; Cheri appreciates Ryis' thoughtfulness and open mind.

March ↗ - Rival (?) ↑

"That errand runner? A total nuisance. Yesterday they came to the forge just to give me that LOOK - I can't describe it, but it's so annoying - and leave! It's like they make time every day just to bother me in some way. Don't they have better things to do? Work at the inn or help out Ryis with that birdhouse project?... huh? N-No, I don't care what they do in this town! Ryis and Reina just happen to be MY friends too!"

If one defines a relationship as "having interacted with each other in any capacity", then March and Cheri have a relationship, all right.Among the first things Cheri did upon arriving to Mistria was to commission Balor to acquire them new concealed carry holsters for their throwing knives. Balor did obtain a set, but they were made to store six knives instead of the meager three Cheri had left at the time, having had one from the original set of four lost in a particularly hectic fight.Luckily for them, Mistria had its resident award-winning blacksmith, so Balor brought Cheri to the smithy to commission new knives to complete the set. When Cheri requested the new knives to be exact replicas of what they had, however, March sneered at them, claiming that the craftmanship on those knives were shoddy and that he could do better. Offended yet intrigued by the brash statement, Cheri challenged March to forge the new knives to his standards, with the caveat that the ornamental work on the new knives must be the exact same as the old.March, carried away by the opportunity to show off in a challenge, ended up forging knives that are beautiful, but unbalanced with the rest of the set, as they were too lightweight. It was then that Cheri declared that for all his skills and the quality of tools he's made, he had no idea how to judge the quality of a weapon; that in the right hands, even the dullest knife could strike true. And Cheri would know, as her hands were made to wield weapons, not tools. But they're not without grace, so Cheri ended up commissioning March a second time to reforge the new knives into exact replicas of the old set, and pay the rate for the initial commission, at that.Ever since, the two found themselves in a constant state of volleying passive-aggressive exchanges - arguing on the town's request board, for one, and bringing those arguments everywhere else after Adeline posted a notice that the board 'is not to be used for resolving personal disagreements', to everyone's collective chagrin or amusement.It was not until a passing teasing comment Cheri made when their paths run into each other's outside the Bathhouse and March's explosive, flustered reaction to it that this so-called relationship's nature changed.All the initial hostility on Cheri's side disappeared and they decided that they should not take March seriously, after all, as he has unfortunately made himself an 'easy target'. Thus began their habit of teasing him relentlessly, just to get a reaction and amuse themselves in the process... to March's absolute dismay, as Cheri remained steadfastly blasé against any of his attempts to retaliate.

Caldarus ↗ - Mentor ↑

"An intriguing, fierce child... though I sense in them a deep well of sorrow and loneliness. I pray that they can find peace in these lands, the same way this old dragon finds peace in watching new flowers sprout in springtime, or birds playing in the snow."

As far as relationships go, Cheri did not expect to bond with a dragon. A talking, sentient dragon, at that.Dragons were mere beasts in Cheri's homeland. Majestic, mythical beasts, admired and feared in equal measure, but only beasts. A dragon like Caldarus, a deity worshipped for his wisdom and a creature perfectly capable of holding conversations, is an entirely foreign concept for Cheri. It was this difference that formed a fledging curiosity in them. First it began from listening to grand tales Caldarus remembered of the distant past, then things transformed to the two trading stories from their old lives, then to stories of the present; from Cheri, how they're trying to adjust to life in Mistria, and from Caldarus, the simple joys of transient life that he'd observed as a statue.Caldarus is a person in his own right, but he is still a dragon - so far removed from 'normal' human lives and customs despite living in their world - thus Cheri felt secure in his companionship, as he never placed any expectations of normalcy that they felt they should adhere to. Cheri is happy that Caldarus not only likes them as they are with no judgment, but also finds them endearing enough to constantly check in on them, even if through methods that they never thought themself capable or believed in its existence - communion in dreams.Despite this contentment, however, there was one uncomfortable observation Cheri has made of Caldarus: his wisdom, philosophy, and teacherly demeanor... he reminded them of their Master. Sometimes they found themself wondering what would happen if Caldarus were in their Master's place, if he were such an integral part of their upbringing the way their old teacher had been. What, then, would they have become today? But such fanciful thoughts always made them awfully guilty as, for better or for worse, their Master was the one who shaped them into what they are today...Caldarus appreciates Cheri's steadfastness and steady companionship; Cheri appreciates Caldarus' advice and gentle hand, and has developed a strong desire to impress him.

Cheri's teacher and the man who made them who they are now.Master was not their birth parent, but he did all that was expected from one; named them, fed them, clothed them. Master was a nobleman, a lord of his very own province, and thus he did not tolerate his pupils being 'uncultured' - so he, too, taught them literacy and the arts, the same way a parent would expect their child to use these skills to succeed in life and society.But, above all else, Master was their teacher.Master taught them the way of the sword, for he was not only their liege lord, but also a warrior. How to hold a blade and what not to do with one in hand. Stances to take on the offense and defense and when to decide to perform which. The difference between giving death or inflicting suffering upon one's opponents. Master believed that violence is just another part of nature, the same way ecosystems had predator and prey; thus, he constantly drilled into young Cheri's head that violence is not something to indulge in, for violence is merely a means for one's survival. A predator kills its prey to live, not to enjoy the act of killing, after all.And as a part of the great cycle of nature, a predator must learn how to survive.Master had never held back from striking his own students in their spars; better to learn from a careful yet firm hand like his before they find out the true meaning of 'kill or be killed' while in the real world. Not everyone would afford his students the same grace he always did. He had always mended all the wounds and breaks, of course, even those he inflicted. Especially the ones he inflicted. Because despite everything he was, Master was not a cruel man.'Strike true, strike to kill'; that was what Master had always said. And to this day, it remained one of the truths of life Cheri held close to their heart.

If Cheri accepts The Player's invitation, the event begins when talking to them on 8PM onwards. Cheri has two different variants of event dialogue, one which triggers if they are invited to the Shooting Star Festival on Year 1 (which also plays on all subsequent invitations) and another which triggers if they are not invited in Year 1 but is invited in Year 2 and above.
